Joy is not a product of happenings, but a virtue that makes things to happen. Joy is not a feeling of ecstasy because things are good and in one’s favor, rather joy is a quality that defines the nature of a person. Joy is a nature, which will ultimately determine the future or what becomes of the person. In essence, joy is a foundational issue in life, which when lacking might make life not to work.
What is Joy that makes it Significant in Life?
- Joy secures access to revelation.
Revelation refers to spiritual understanding of God’s word that makes the believer to know what to do in any given situation to deliver his desired result Jn. 6:6. In essence, revelation will make for revolution in life. From scriptures, we understand that joy guarantee access to revelation Isa. 30:29-30; 2Cor. 3:18.
- Joy secures access to our inheritance in the kingdom.
Salvation offers man great promises with the end result of great life 2Pet. 1:4. The bible shows us that joy is a must requirement to gain access to everything that salvation offers Isa. 12:3. In essence, without joy, being saved might fail to deliver the benefits to man.
- Joy empowers for fruitfulness.
Being fruitful means bringing forth expected result at the expected time Psa. 1:3. This is what makes for an exciting and fulfilling life. The scriptures show us that joy empowers the believer to be fruitful Joel 1:11-12; Isa. 54:1-3.
- Joy empowers for healing, health, and wholeness.
Health and wholeness or strength are foundational in life, every other thing in life comes after them Psa. 11:3. We understand from scriptures that joy is the spiritual ‘medicine’ for health and strength Neh. 8:10; Pro. 17:22; 18:14.
- Joy secures divine presence.
Divine presence is what makes all the difference in man’s life on the earth Exo. 33:14-15; Acts 10:38. From scriptures, we understand that joy is the guarantee that secures divine presence Psa. 16:11.
The Bible Way to Develop the Virtue of Joy.
There is the bible way to everything in life, which when followed guarantees delivery of good result Jos. 1:8. The bible way is what we refer to as “wisdom kits”. The wisdom kits to cultivate the virtue of joy are:
- Be born again.
When Jesus was born on the earth, the angels declare joy to the world Lk. 2:10-11. In essence, every time Jesus steps into a life, the virtue of joy is imparted into that life. This is what the bible refers to as “the joy of salvation” Psa. 51:12; Isa. 61:10; Gal. 5:22.
- Be filled with the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is the spiritual wine that stirs joy in the believer Acts 2:14-17; Isa. 61:3; Psa. 45:6-8. Every believer that is truly filled with the Holy Spirit is an ever-joyful personality Rms. 14:17.
- Keep feeding on the word.
God’s word, the bible, is a spiritual tonic that stirs joy in believers Psa. 119:162; Jer. 15:16. In essence, the more the believer feeds on the word, the more joyful he will be in life.
- Keep your faith alive.
Faith is a covenant force that invokes joy Acts 2:44-47; 1Pet. 1:8. In essence, as we build our faith, we are inherently building the virtue of joy in our life with the end result of a great life.
- Remain assure of eternity with Christ.
When all that an individual is pursuing after in life ends here on earth, he will live a joyless and miserable life 1Cor. 15:19. The confidence of eternity with Christ creates joy in the believer, which in turn fuels the believer to accomplish great things and experience a fulfilling life Heb. 12:1-2. Remember, eternity with Christ is for those who have overcome in the battle against sin Rev. 1:7-8; 1Cor. 6:9-11.
In conclusion, life is all about responsibility! When we embrace the required responsibilities, life will begin to answer to us and deliver expected result. One basic responsibility is to cultivate joy, and live by it.
To anyone reading this that will love to give his/her life to Christ, pray this prayer out loud with me from your heart: “Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you today. Forgive me my sins; wash me with your blood. I believe you died for me, on the third day you rose again that I may be justified. Right now, I believe that my sins are forgiven; I’m justified by your blood; I’m born-again; I’m saved; I’m a child of God; I’m free from the power of sin to serve the living God. Thank you, Jesus, for receiving me; thank you Jesus for restoring me; thank you Jesus for saving me. Amen!”
Prayer.
- Father, in the name of Jesus, I cast the spirit of heaviness out of my life now 16:17.
- Father, in the name of Jesus, I receive your grace to embrace the demands for the life of joy from today 15:10.
