UNDERSTANDING THE WONDERS OF THANKSGIVING PT. 1.

Scriptures make us to understand that giving thanks to God is the will of God in every situation 1Ths. 5:18. In essence, when the believer fails to give thanks to God in any situation, he is outside of God’s will. Doing the will of God is the secret to the abundant life God promised the believer 1Jn. 5:14-15; Heb. 10:36. Many believers don’t know what God’s will is in their situation, which makes them to do whatever seems right, often this lead to error and destruction Pro. 12:14. Whatever the situation is, give God thanks and you are sure to be doing God’s will.

What is Thanksgiving?

  1. It is acknowledging God as the one behind the good things around our life Jn. 3:27; Lk. 17:15-20.

Man does not have the power in himself to do anything in life Jn. 15:5; Psa. 127: 1-2. Hence for every good thing that happens, God is behind it and He awaits our return to acknowledge Him for it. When we fail to do this, we incur His wrath Psa. 28:5; Mal. 2:1-3.

  • It is a celebration of the acts of God in our lives Psa. 103:1-5; 118:23.

When an individual says concerning the happenings in his life that ‘this is the doing of the Lord’; he is celebrating the act of God in his life. There is no celebration that is quiet, it always goes with a noise and public display, but at different levels.

  • It is ascribing all the glory to God for where one is and what one has achieved Jer. 13:15-17; 1Cor.15:10.

We must learn to attribute every progress, addition, increase and achievement, no matter how small to God’s hand at work in our lives Matt. 6:27. Remember, one thing that God will not allow is for any man to claim the glory that belongs to Him Isa 42:8; 48:11; Dan. 4:30-32; Acts 12:20-22. We must be deliberate in directing people’s attention to God who made the things to happen in our lives.

  • It is recounting of God’s loving kindness in our lives Isa. 63:7; Psa. 105:4-5; 48:9-10.

Everything that we have was given by God, and that is an expression of God’s love to us Jn. 3:16. Everything that we received was by God’s mercy, a show of his kindness, which silenced the accusation of the enemy aimed at robbing the believer from taking delivery of his blessing from God Lam. 3:22-24. Therefore, we owe God the acknowledgement of every experience of his love and kindness; to make God and others know we understand who is behind all of the acts.

  • It is appreciating God for the present in anticipation for the next Jn. 6:6-11; 11:41-44.

Thanksgiving is deliberately acknowledging and celebrating God for what He has done. God’s principle and law is that when an individual appreciates Him for what He has done, the individual is entitled for what is next without asking for it Lk. 17:15-19.

What are the wonders in Thanksgiving?

  1. Thanksgiving empowers the believers for unstoppable advancement in life Lk. 17:15-19; Psa. 100:4; 114:1-8.

Thanksgiving invokes God’s presence, which makes all opposition to give way of their own accord resulting in the unstoppable advancement of the believer.

  1. When thanksgiving graduates to praise, wonders without end becomes the normal experience of the believer Exo. 15:11; Job 9:10.

Every truly grateful believer is a praise-ful believer; and praise is the trigger for God’s wonders in life.

  1. When praise graduates to high praise, we invoke judgement on our enemies Psa. 149: 6-9; 2Chr. 20: 20-24.

We can bring every of the enemies against our lives down, simply by engaging the mystery of thanksgiving.

In conclusion, one is either a thanks-giver or a complainer, it is a choice to make. The thanks-giver enjoys a life of glory, while the complainer suffers defeat and depression.

To anyone reading this that will love to give his/her life to Christ, pray this prayer out loud with me from your heart: “Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you today. Forgive me my sins; wash me with your blood. I believe you died for me, on the third day you rose again that I may be justified. Right now, I believe that my sins are forgiven; I’m justified by your blood; I’m born-again; I’m saved; I’m a child of God; I’m free from the power of sin to serve the living God. Thank you Jesus for receiving me; thank you Jesus for restoring me; thank you Jesus for saving me.”

Prayer.

Father in the name of Jesus, I receive the grace for the lifestyle of ceaseless thanksgiving from today 1Cor. 15:10.
