Salvation brings the believer potentially into the world of overcomers, but faith is what makes the believer an overcomer in reality 1Jn. 5:4. In essence, one can be born again and still be defeated, oppressed and a victim. Therefore, faith is what makes the difference between a winning and losing believer, it is believer’s access to a colorful, beautiful and glorious life Jn. 11:40.
What is Faith?
- Faith is being fully persuaded of the truth, the prevailing circumstances notwithstanding, until the truth triumphs.
The truth is what God says concerning a thing or situation, which is often in contrast to what men say Jn. 17:17. To be persuaded means to cause someone to believe something, after a sustained effort to convince. In essence, faith is to become convinced that what God says concerning the situation or a thing is true, with the capacity to hold unto this until it becomes the reality. This was the faith of Abraham that made a living son to come out of dead persons Rms. 4:17-21.
- Faith is a display of confidence in God until when the desired result is obtained.
Confidence is capacity to rely on someone or something, especially when everything seems to suggest the contrary. In essence, faith is the capacity to rely on God no matter what, until what one desire is delivered 2Tim. 1:12. When God sees this reliance on Him in a believer, He becomes committed to deliver the individuals desire immediately Heb. 10:35-36; Mk. 2:2-5,11-12.
- Faith is the answer to all impossible challenges of life.
Any issue that has been classified as impossible is turned to possible at the instance of faith Mk. 9:23. In essence, when faith comes alive every impossibility gives way.
But, it is not enough to have one’s faith come alive; we must ensure that our faith work. This is because faith sometimes can fail Lk. 22:31.
What Makes Faith to Work?
- Prayer and fasting powered faith.
When prayer and fasting is combined with faith, faith is guaranteed to deliver result Mat. 17:19-21; Isa. 58:6,8-14. In essence, when we add prayer and fasting to our faith, we are guaranteed to deliver whatever we have believed God for.
- God-confident boosted faith.
When faith is rooted in total confidence in God, it is guaranteed to deliver result Num. 14:1-12,14; Php. 3:3; 4:13. Being God confident is a state when the believer has no alternative other than God.
- God-passionate powered faith.
When faith is borne out of passion for God and His kingdom, it is guaranteed to work. What is passion for God? It is strong and barely controllable emotion or inclination towards God and His kingdom. This was the secret of the faith at work in Elijah, which produced the great feats done in his life and ministry 1Kgs. 18:23-39; 19:10,14; Jms. 5:17-18.
- Seed time and harvest driven faith.
When faith is based on the conviction that every thought, word and action is a seed, and as a seed it is sure to deliver harvest Gen. 8:22; Deu. 8:18; 2Cor. 9:6-8. This will empower our faith to deliver result always, because we will have the confidence to engage ourselves on whatever God says, knowing that our effort will surely return with desired harvest.
- Authority-conscious faith.
When faith is out of the understanding of our authority as believers, it is guaranteed to deliver result. Redemption makes the believer to share the same level of power with God, this confers authority on the believer that make all things to answer to him like God Lk. 9:1-2,6; Jn. 5:26-27; 1Cor. 3:21-23. This authority-consciousness is the secret for the faith that works Acts 6:3-6; 9:32-34; 2Kgs. 1:1-8.9-12.
- Sacrifice-invoked faith.
When faith is borne out of a life of sacrifice for God, it is guaranteed to work Psa. 50:5; 126:1-6. Our sacrifice for God has a way of strengthening our confidence in God, thereby making our faith to deliver result without failing Dan. 3:15-17,22-26. This was the faith of Abraham that turned him into a trans-generational blessing Gen. 22:1-5,16-18; Heb. 11:17-19.
In conclusion, the challenge with many believer of today is our faith, which is an end-time syndrome Lk. 18:8. Every believer that desires to be an over comer in this end-time in the midst of the terrific evil must take up the responsibility to build the faith that work. It is a personal responsibility that cannot be transferred or done on behalf of another.
To anyone reading this that will love to give his/her life to Christ, pray this prayer out loud with me from your heart: “Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you today. Forgive me my sins; wash me with your blood. I believe you died for me, on the third day you rose again that I may be justified. Right now, I believe that my sins are forgiven; I’m justified by your blood; I’m born-again; I’m saved; I’m a child of God; I’m free from the power of sin to serve the living God. Thank you Jesus for receiving me; thank you Jesus for restoring me; thank you Jesus for
