Memory verse:
“Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet for this be enquired of by the
house of Israel, to do it for them; I will increase them with men
like a flock.” – Ezk. 36:37.
The will of God for every church of Christ on the earth is supernatural growth Matt. 16:18. Despite that church growth is God’s will, it won’t happen automatically. One vital responsibility for church growth is prayer investment Ezk. 36:37; Isa. 66:7-8. Only the church that accepts the responsibility to engage intensely in prayer that will experience growth. The question is, why must the church have to pray and continue at it before she can experience growth?
Our teaching this week is centered on this subject. We shall be exploring the scriptures to show the need for prayer investment for the growth of the church. And I believe God that as we do, there shall be the impartation of the Spirit of prayer on our lives in a new way.
What makes Prayer vital for Church Growth?
- Church growth is warfare Matt. 16:18.
Scriptures make us to understand that the growth of the church will be contested, and the arch-enemy is Satan himself 2Cor. 4:4; 1Ths. 2:18. The church must engage in spiritual warfare in order to prevail against the devil and his agents referred to as the gates of hell Lk. 11:21-22; Eph. 4:27; 1Pet. 5:8-9. We understand from scriptures that prayer and fasting are the dual kingdom weapons for victory over Satan and all the powers of hell against the growth of the church Matt. 17:20-21. This is why the church that must grow must be willing to pray, and whatever cannot stop the church from praying cannot stop the church from growing Acts 6:4-7.
The good news is that there are rewards for engaging in prayer for church growth Matt. 6:6,18. Remember, it is the reward of God that makes life on earth to be rich and glorious Pro. 10:22. This means that everyone who is given to prayer and fasting for church growth as a lifestyle is guaranteed the experience of glory in life.
