The scriptures make us to understand that we are in the last days; all the signs the scriptures gave to show that the return of Jesus to the earth is near are all around us Acts 1:9-11; Mat. 24:3-14. Power is a vital feature of the church of Christ in the last days. In essence, the last days shall be the day of power for the church of Christ Psa. 110:1-3. The church shall be in absolute command on the earth in the midst of the gruesome wickedness that will characterize the last days, and this is going to be by the power of God that the church will manifest 2Tim. 3:1; Dan. 12:10. Therefore, the last days demand that the believer understand how to generate and walk in power.

What is the Covenant Platform for Empowerment?

Jesus our perfect example returned in the power of the Spirit after His 40 days of fasting and prayer Lk. 4:1-2,14. This shows us that prayer and fasting is the covenant platform for the empowerment of the redeemed Isa. 58:6-14. If we are in the last days, the day of power; it means we are in the days of prayer and fasting for the church Lk. 5:30-33.

Why Continuous Prayer and Fasting?

The believer needs to keep engaging in prayer and fasting as a lifestyle for continuous change of level of empowerment and authority. There are different levels of empowerment, this is graphically illustrated in Ezekiel’s prophecy, and we saw the ankle, kneel, waist and overflowing levels Ezk. 47:1-5. Prayer and fasting is not just to change things, but essentially it is to change the believer’s level of power, which in turn will produce the desired change n the life of that believer Jn. 7:37-39. To overstay at a power level can be frustrating and devastating if nothing is done on time Deu. 2:3; Mic. 2:10. This is why the scriptures prescribe prayer and fasting as a schedule for the believer Mat. 6:6,17-18; Lk. 9:28-35.

Benefits of Prayer and Fasting.

1. Destruction of yokes.

Yokes refers to everything that is a product of the hand of the devil, this include deadly habits. Prayer and fasting is ordained to destroy such Isa. 58:6; 10:25-27; Mat. 17:20-21.

• Triggers outbreak of revelation.

Prayer and fasting will take away the blindfold, giving the believer better and deeper access to the light of God’s word Isa. 58:8,10; 2Cor. 4:4. And when we access better light, we fly higher in life Isa. 60:1-3,8.

• Facilitates express answer to our prayers.

Fasting is an expression of a desperate heart to God Psa. 63:1-2; 107:9. Desperation always secure instant response from God, thereby making our prayer to command answer instantly Isa. 58:9; Mat. 6:5,17-18.

• Enhances health and vitality.

Prayer and fasting will always culminate in restoration of health and strength Isa. 43:21. In fasting, our outer body might appear weak, but our inner man is being renewed 2Cor. 4:16. Remember, the health of every an is a function of the state of his inner man Pro. 18:14; 17:22.

• Enhances access to divine guidance.

Prayer and particularly fasting is a show of our dependence on God, and the first thing we need is direction in life Jer. 10:23-24. This is why one fundamental thing prayer and fasting delivers to the believer is to enhance his access to divine guidance Isa. 58:11. When the believer is guided in life, he prospers without stress Isa. 48:17,21.

• Empowers us for supernatural breakthrough.

We live in a world that is filled with diverse oppositions on the our path of progress 1Cor. 16:9. Breakthrough is making progress at the face of obstacles and oppositions. Through the power that prayer and fasting generate, the believer advances in spite o the obstacles on his path Isa. 58:12, Lk. 4:14,32.

• Facilitates access to our high places in life.

By redemption, we are ordained for the high places in life Mat. 5:14-16. But no one ever steps into his promised land without giants to confront or intimidating situations to surmount Hab. 3:17-19. Prayer and fasting imparts with the strength needed to go through to access ones promised land Isa. 58:6,14.

In conclusion, we are in a great year, God has ordained for us to step into the great things He has prepared, which He has been preparing us for over the years Deu. 8:7-10. But we will need to be adequately empowered before we can step into them in reality. NONE OF US SHALL MISS OUT OF THE GREAT PLAN OF GOD FOR OUR LIVES THIS YEAR!

For an individual to be empowered, there is the demand for one to be truly born again Jn. 1:12, and to do away with sin Jud. 16:20.

Forgive me my sins; wash me with your blood. I believe you died for me and on the third day you rose again that I may be justified. Right now, I believe that my sins are forgiven; I’m justified by your blood; I’m born-again; I’m saved; I’m a child of God; I’m free from the power of sin to serve the living God. Thank you, Jesus, for receiving me; thank you Jesus for restoring me; thank you Jesus for saving me.”
