Memory verse:

The scriptures make us to understand that the love of God is the first and great commandment Mat. 22:37-40. Fulfilling the love commandment is fulfilling the laws of God Rms. 13:10. Remember that God’s commandment is ordained for the profit of the believer as they are obeyed Deu. 28:1-2. In essence, the love commandment alone gives the believer access to all the benefits of all the commandments of God when obeyed Rms. 8:28. Therefore, love for God is a highly profitable exercise that makes the believer to emerge a wonder in life 1Cor. 2:9. Love for God is a choice not a gift; individual believer must make the choice of love for God Mat. 6:24. When the choice to love God is made, it will show in certain acts 1Jn. 3:18.

The scriptural proofs of love for God.

1. Love for God is above all including self.

When everything else outside of God loses value to the believer, then the love of God is true in that believer’s life Lk. 14:26-27. True love for God makes nothing outside to hold any value again to the believer.

• Passion for the afflicted.

Love for God makes the believer’s heart to pant for the afflicted 1Jn. 4:20-21. Moses could not stand the Israelite being oppressed, his heart was out to see them delivered and this brought him into greatness Exo. 3:7-10; 4:17-20; Deu. 34:10-12.

• Undying passion for the salvation of souls.

Apostle Paul was a die-hard lover of God Rms. 8:35-39. We saw this in his passion towards the salvation of the unsaved Php. 1:21; 2Tim. 4:6-8. When the love of God is truly in a believer, the salvation of souls will become his heartbeat.

Father, in the name of Jesus, baptize me afresh with the Spirit of love, thereby ignite a fresh fire of the love of God on my life Rms. 8:39.
