Memory verse:
“Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.”
“Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.”
- Php. 4:4-5.
The bible is a book of instruction, and a fundamental instruction of scriptures to the believer is joy and rejoicing Php. 4:4; 3:1. The believer is to be joyful at all times no matter the situation and circumstance that seem to surround his life. The scriptures makes us to understand that the mystery of joy and rejoicing secures divine presence, and divine presence is what makes all the difference in life Psa. 16:11; Exo. 3:7-10. In essence, the scriptures command the believer to rejoice in order to experience divine presence, which is vital to experience the life of glory ordained for him on earth Psa. 63:1-2.
Scriptural understanding that empowers the believer for joy and rejoicing.
- One cannot be grateful and not be joyful.
The attitude of gratefulness will always result in joyfulness and rejoicing Psa. 92:1-4. Those who are not appreciative are always moody and depressed at heart. Appreciation is a vital fuel for joy, it lightens the mood and stirs the believer to be joyful and glad.
- There is nothing we have that we have not received.
The understanding that everything we have was received from God, not achieved by our effort will make for joy and gladness always Jn. 3:27; 1Cor. 4:7. Many that are not excited are victims of the ‘mentality of achievement’ that seem to elude them.
- Learning to acknowledge God’s goodness and mercy.
Gratefulness begins with acknowledgment of things done Psa. 103:1-5. In essence, when we acknowledge, we become grateful, which results into joyfulness and rejoicing Lk. 17:15-19. We must therefore continue to acknowledge God for His goodness and mercy to remain joyful, thereby retain His blessings.
