The scriptures make us to understand that the church does not refer to the physical building, but God’s children 1Pet. 2:5; 1Cor. 3:9. The growth of the church means the increase in the number of God’s children Acts 2:41,47. The altar of prayer and fasting is the place of generating the power needed to have the unsaved detached from the life of sin and the world, to become committed to Christ and live for God Mat. 28:18-20; Isa. 58:6. Therefore, the church that will experience growth must become committed to prayer and fasting. Where this commitment stops is where growth will be stalled for the church.

The Power of Prayer in Effecting Church Growth.

1. Prayer is vital to taking territories for Christ.

The growth of the church demands that we take territories for Christ Acts 2:6. To take territories for Christ, we need the ministry of the Holy Spirit, who is the personality behind the drafting of multitudes into the kingdom and the church Zch. 4:6; Acts 2:1-6,37-41. The prayer altar is the place of invoking the Holy Spirit to work Acts. 4:30-33.

• Prayer and fasting destroys the hold of the wicked off the converts.

Until the converts are brought to the church and abide, the church will not experience growth Lk. 14:17-23. The challenge in many places is that the people keep coming, but leaving at the same rate. To have the people abide, the hold of the wicked must be destroyed off their lives Lk. 11:21-22. And this is done on the prayer altar Col. 4:12.

• Prayer and fasting provokes eruption of revelation.

Revelation makes the believer’s life to shine, thereby attracting many more to Christ and the church Isa. 60:1-3; Zch. 8:23. The altar of prayer and fasting is the place of illumination ad revelation Isa. 58:6,8.

The truth is that a praying church will be a growing church. And a growing church must remain a praying church to keep growing. And the growth of the church results in the glory of the saints Jer. 30:19-21.
