Memory verse:

“So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,”

“And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.”

From the scriptures, we have come to understand that church growth is God’s will Mat. 16:18; Lk. 12:32. Church growth is not having a large building, and is much more than having a large congregation. Church growth is about having more souls reconciled to God, established in the faith by being planted in the church Acts 2:6,37-38,41. When it comes to the subject of men getting saved and coming to church, prayer becomes vital Psa. 2:8; Ezk. 36:37. This is why every praying church is a growing church, and every growing church must remain praying church so as to keep growing Acts 6:1-4,7.

The power of prayer in invoking sustainable and supernatural church growth.

  1. The labor room of prayer is the birth place of multitudes in the kingdom.

The scriptures used the word ‘travail’ for prayer, thereby showing it as the labor room for bringing forth souls for Christ Isa. 66:7-8; 53:11. When we engage the prayer altar, we birth multitude the kingdom Acts 6:4,7.

  • Prayer empowers the word of God for effect.

The unsaved must hear the word to be saved, come to church and established in the faith Rms. 10:14-15; Mat. 28:19-20. But the word requires prayer for its continuous flow, impact and transformation of lives 2Ths. 3:1; Eph. 3:-18-19.

  • Prayer is vital to see new converts and members retained.

From scriptures, we understand that it is the word of God that sustains the multitude drawn to the church Jn. 6:66-68; Mat. 24:28. This word of God is facilitated in prayer Acts 6:4,7.

This is why we say that prayer is the life-wire for sustainable and supernatural growth of the church, either in bible times or in our present days Jer. 6:16-17.
