Memory verse:
“And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with
what comparison shall we compare it?”
“It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth,
is less than all the seeds that be in the earth: “
“But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs,
and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.”
- Mk. 4:30-32.
We have established from scriptures that dedication to God and kingdom advancement is the basic requirement the believer to rise to greatness Jn. 12:23-26. Until a seed is planted in (dedicated to) the soil, it will remain a seed and end up destroyed as one when it has the potential of becoming a tree Mk. 4:30-32. In the process of being planted, the seed will first lose the life it has now; this is to give way for the greater life it can experience to manifest. The same is what applies to a believer, at new birth he receives a greater life, the supernatural life, with the potential to make him outstanding in life Jn. 3:16; Matt. 5:13-14. But until the believer becomes dedicated to God and His kingdom, the new life cannot produce the outstanding life for him.
Dedication by definition is to become sold out to God and the course of the kingdom Php. 1:21. This is the missing link in the life of many in church today, the reason why we have more of mediocre. We shall go further in our study of bible examples to establish the truth of the power of dedication in the rise of giants Heb. 6:12.
Scriptural Examples of Giants who Rose by Dedication.
- Nehemiah.
Nehemiah was a war captive from Judah, given the task of cup-bearer in Shushan palace of Babylon, the strongest nation of the time. Ordinarily, this should be an enviable position for Nehemiah. But his undying passion for God and God’s people would not allow him to bask in the ‘glory, but he kept watching out for the well being of his homeland and the people there Neh. 1:1-10. He commitment made him break protocol by appearing in the king’s presence in a sad mood, which amounts to death Neh. 2:2-3. But a dedicated man does not die because of his dedication, so the king rather approved him to rebuild the broken walls of Jerusalem instead of death sentence. And he got on the job of rebuilding the wall with unparallel sacrifice, accomplished it in record time of fifty-two days Neh. 4:17-21; 6:15. At the end, Nehemiah emerged the governor of Judah without election Neh. 5:14.
Dedication is not a gift of the Spirit, so it cannot be imparted. Rather, it is a virtue of the Spirit, which demands a choice first and then commitment to develop it in one’s life.
