We understand from scriptures and the lives of those before us that God is all that one need to have all of life’s issues in control Rms. 8:31; Pro. 16:7; Exo. 33:14-15. The absence of God is what turns life issues to mountains before men Psa. 68:1-2; 127:1-3. Enjoying God and His intervention is the normal experience of everyone that walks in godliness, holiness and righteousness Amos 3:3; Heb. 12:14; Rev. 4:8. This is why scriptures command us to be holy like God 1Pet. 5:15-16; Matt. 5:48. Remember, whatever God commands us to be, He has empowered us for it Jdg. 6:14.
The Cost of Ungodliness.
The understanding of what the life of sin cost an individual will empower the believer to pay the price for godliness.
- It stirs shame and approach Pro. 14:34; Jdg. 16:23-25.
Sin cuts a man off certain things, and principal is the glory of God Rms. 3:23. When God’s glory is cut off a man’s life, what remain will be shame, reproach, struggle, which will result ultimately in failure and frustration.
- It stirs fear and dread Gen. 3:9-10; Pro. 28:1.
Life is controlled by the basic rule of ‘cause and effect’ or ‘action and reaction’ Gen. 8:22. One effect of the practise of sin on an individual is fear; and fear brings the victim into torment 1Jn. 4:18. In essence, sin causes fear, which brings into torment. Many are being tormented in different areas of life; terrible night mares, sickness, disease, misfortune etc. The cause of all is the life of sin the individual live.
- It blocks access to divine favor Psa. 5:12.
Sin will disconnect from God’s favor, thereby leaving a man to labor for everything in life. A life of labor is characterized with struggle, toiling and pain. This is why too many are struggling all through life; because of the life of sin they have embraced.
The Way Out
The answer to sin is REPENTANCE Acts 2:37-38. Repentance is acknowledgment of and godly sorrow for sin 2Cor. 7:10; Jonah 3:1-10. Don’t be ashamed to repent of sin when God’s Spirit pricks your heart, it is the wisdom for your change of story.
The Demands for Godliness.
Walking in godliness is at a cost; the good news is that the cost cannot be compared to the dividends.
- Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers 2Cor. 6:14-18; Psa. 1:1-3.
A walk in godliness will be impossible when we walk with people who are committed to ungodly lifestyle. If we truly desire godliness, we must pay the price of cutting off ungodly friends and connect to men given to godliness as a lifestyle.
- Be delighted in keeping God’s commandments Psa. 112:1-3; Jn. 14:21.
The word delight refers to one’s interest or what gives one pleasure. The life of godliness or ungodliness has the root on the inside of the individual; what interest him and what he takes pleasure in Jms. 1:13-16. For godliness, one must make doing what God and His word says a delight, God’s word must become the pleasure of one’s life Psa. 119:97; 1:2. It is a choice to make personally and a thing to be committed to.
- Continue to fellowship with the saints Heb. 3:13; 10:25.
Fellowship is where God’s children meet to worship God, it is a mysterious place. One benefit of fellowship is deliverance; the power of God is at work in such strange dimension that sets the believer free of everything that is ungodly Oba. 17. In fellowship, the believer is made stronger making him to be able to stand against sin, which he might not have been able to with stand in any other way Psa. 84:7; 73:1-2, 17.
In conclusion, godliness guarantees God’s glory; in essence, when we attain to godliness God’s glory becomes our natural experience Exo. 15:11. The good news is that godliness is possible to any one that desire and commits to pay the price. You are the next to emerge a kingdom celebrity to your world.
To anyone reading this that will love to give his/her life to Christ, pray this prayer out loud with me from your heart: “Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you today. Forgive me my sins; wash me with your blood. I believe you died for me, on the third day you rose again that I may be justified. Right now, I believe that my sins are forgiven; I’m justified by your blood; I’m born-again; I’m saved; I’m a child of God; I’m free from the power of sin to serve the living God. Thank you Jesus for receiving me; thank you Jesus for restoring me; thank you Jesus for saving me.”
Prayer.
- Father in the name of Jesus, I say no to every form of ungodliness and make the choice for godliness from now Dan. 1:8.
- Father in the name of Jesus, by the power of the Holy Spirit empowers me to stand against every temptation of sin from today Rms. 8:2-3.
