The scriptures prescription on how to help the poor out of poverty is to preach to him Isa. 61:1; Lk. 4:18. This means showing the poor from scriptures the escape route from poverty. What is that way of escape from poverty? It is the covenant Deu. 8:18.
What is this Covenant?
It is the platform provided by God to empower for wealth Deu. 8:18. It is God’s bailout platform from harsh economic situations Psa. 33:18-19. It is simply a contract between God and the believer with well-defined terms that is sealed with oath Heb. 6:16-18. The good news is that God’s covenant is guaranteed and eternally binding, as long as the day and night exist Jer. 33:20-21.
Terms of the Covenant of Financial Fortune.
- Personal and business tithing.
Tithe is ten percent of every income; it belongs to God and must be returned whole Lev. 27:30-32. It keeps the heaven open for the outpouring of blessing, which is what we require wealth Mal. 3:10-12; Pro. 10:22.
- Kingdom promotion sacrifice.
A sacrifice is a giving with great cost on the life of the believer 2Sam. 24:24. Hence, kingdom promotion sacrifice refers to such giving by a believer purposefully to advance God’s work, kingdom and the church Hag. 1:3-13; Lk. 12:21. The blessing of kingdom promotion sacrifice among others is sudden and dramatic financial change Psa. 126:1-6; 1Kgs. 17:8-15.
- Giving to charity.
Charity refers to giving to help those in need. Giving to charitable causes is covenant practise, whether it is to believer or non-believer, but the bible instructs that we begin our charity from those that belong to the church 1Tim. 6:17-19; Gal. 6:10; Mat. 25:31-40. We must beware of the error of doing this for show, to be recognised, so that we don’t lose the blessing Mat. 6:1-4. This covenant practise was the secret behind the financial fortune of Job, who was named as the greatest man in his days Job 1:1-3; 29:4-25.
Fringe Benefits of Covenant Practice.
Following God by walking in His ways is highly profitable.
- It engenders peace.
Covenant practice brings the believer into peace all around 2Chr. 15:12,15,19. A covenant practiser does not have pressure in life; financial, career, business, marriage etc.
- It engenders longevity.
Walking by God’s covenant forbids the believer’s life from being cut short Isa. 65:20-24. Abraham walked by God’s covenant and he lived to a good old age and blessed in all things Gen. 24:2; 25:8.
- It engenders divine health.
Covenant practise commits God personally to the life of the believer to keep him healthy and strong Psa. 41:1-3; Jn. 15:2. In essence, when a believer commits to walk in God’s covenant, sickness cannot access his body and life.
In conclusion, walking in God’s covenant is a personal choice. When the choice is made, the power of God is triggered to effect change in the believer’s life.
To anyone reading this that will love to give his/her life to Christ, pray this prayer out loud with me from your heart: “Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you today. Forgive me my sins; wash me with your blood. I believe you died for me, on the third day you rose again that I may be justified. Right now, I believe that my sins are forgiven; I’m justified by your blood; I’m born-again; I’m saved; I’m a child of God; I’m free from the power of sin to serve the living God. Thank you Jesus for receiving me; thank you Jesus for restoring me; thank you Jesus for
Prayer.
Father in the name of Jesus, I make the choice for steadfastness in covenant practice, and cause financial fortune to answer to us from today Deu. 30:19.
