Godliness simply mean to become like God in thoughts, words, and deed Matt. 5:48; 1Pet. 1:15-16. Remember, God will not tell us to be what He has not empowered us to be, neither will He instruct us to do what He has not empowered us to do Jdg. 6:14. Godliness is the believers guarantee for glory and a fulfilling Christian life 2Tim. 2:19-21. In essence, if our desire is glory and fulfilment, godliness must become our choice.

Cost of Ungodliness.

Ungodliness is very expensive!

  1. It blocks access to divine secrets Psa. 25:14.

God has secrets, when they are revealed man is empowered to do exploits Deut. 29:29; Dan. 2:19,30,46; 11:32. One secret of God that is revealed to a man is enough to turn the man to a wonder for life. But sin is a barrier between man and God, thereby preventing man from access to divine secrets Isa. 59:2.

  • It stirs unrest 2Chr. 15:3-6; Pro. 28:1; Isa. 32:17.

Anywhere sin reign, crisis and unrest is the order of the day. If we desire the life of rest free of crisis and tension, our choice must be godliness.

  • It blocks access to the flow of divine wisdom Dan. 1:8,17.

The wisdom a man possesses defines the experience of his life Pro. 3:13-17; Matt. 7:24-27. God’s wisdom turns men into stars irrespective of their background and credentials Pro. 3:35; Eccl. 8:1. But sin blocks from access to God’s wisdom, thereby robbing the believer of the privilege of emerging as a star.

The Way Out of Sin.

Repentance is the only way out of sin, as prescribed by the bible Acts 2:37. What is repentance? It is sincere acknowledgement of one’s sin before God, and willingness to allow God take away the sin. When a man truly acknowledges his sin before God, he is not ashamed to openly confess it to God and before men. Understand that God does not hold our sin against us, it is the devil that does. And the only way to prevent Satan from doing this is to make God take off the sin, this can only happen by repentance Ezk. 18:20-24.

Demands of Godliness.

Everything of value in life has a price to it, godliness is not an exemption. When the price is paid, the product is naturally delivered. In essence, when a believer pays the price for godliness, he naturally lives a godly life from then. What are some of the prices for godly life?

  1. Purpose to live a godly life Dan. 1:8; 6:5-8.

This is to make the decision and choice with determination for a godly life. The choice of man is a force in life; God Himself respect it, therefore Satan cannot disobey it Duet. 30:19. When a believer makes the choice against sin, he has floors sin forever in his life! One characteristic of a true choice and decision is that it is written or documented; when this is not done, it is yet to be genuine.

  • Watch and pray with fasting Lk. 21:13; Matt. 26:41; Isa. 58:6-8.

To watch means to be observant giving attention to details. Many of the sin that the believer falls for would have been cheaply overcome by being watchful. Prayer is the place where we fortify our watchfulness and generate the fire to burn off sin; every genuine man of prayer walks in godliness. Fasting is the spiritual exercise that makes prayer to deliver fast.

  • Stay on the word Psa. 119:9-11; Eph. 5:26; Jn. 15:3.

God’s word is the spiritual water that washes away dirt from the life of men. The more we feed on God’s word and live by it, the more we are empowered to live godly.

In conclusion, godliness goes with a cost, but the cost of ungodliness is higher. Godliness goes with a cost, but the rewards outweigh the cost. Godliness is possible by any man; it is simply by paying the price.

To anyone reading this that will love to give his/her life to Christ, pray this prayer out loud with me from your heart: “Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you today. Forgive me my sins; wash me with your blood. I believe you died for me, on the third day you rose again that I may be justified. Right now, I believe that my sins are forgiven; I’m justified by your blood; I’m born-again; I’m saved; I’m a child of God; I’m free from the power of sin to serve the living God. Thank you Jesus for receiving me; thank you Jesus for restoring me; thank you Jesus for saving me.”

Prayer.

Father in the name of Jesus, deliver me from the power of sin, thereby recover my glorious destiny Zch. 3:4.
