Memory verse:
“Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: 17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. 18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. 19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. 20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. 21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. 22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. 23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled” – Lk. 14:16-23.
The growth of the church is God’s will; it is not ordained a seasonal affair but all-time (Mat. 16:18). Growth does not just happen; it is made to happen. Believers have the scriptural responsibility to labor for the growth of the church (1Cor. 3:6; Heb. 3:3). A core responsibility is being on the go for Christ, and we identified this as going to tell someone else about what Christ has done (Lk. 14:21-23). Someone may ask, what is my benefit in laboring for church growth? It is the experience of glory because in the growth of the church is the glory of the people (Jer. 30:19).
Growing the Church by Being on the Go for Christ.
- There is the Need to Compel People to Come.
Compelling here connotes invitation in a way, and provision of what it takes that makes it nearly impossible for anyone to reject or refuse to come (Lk. 14: 23).
- Praying to God for Increase.
Every effort will deliver growth only when our God, who is the God of increase steps in (1Cor. 3:6). Prayer is the way to make Him step in (Ezk. 36:37).
- We must be Unashamed of the Gospel.
It takes not being ashamed of the gospel to remain on the go (Mk. 8:38; Rms. 1:16).
