The scriptures make us to understand that God’s design for His children is to attain to good old age Psa. 91:16; Gen. 15:15; 25:8; Gal. 3:29. The believer by the covenant therefore is not permitted to depart from the earth until he has experienced the fullness of his days Gen. 35:29; 1Chr. 23:1; 29:28; Isa. 65:20. Also, the scriptures make us to understand that by the death and resurrection of Christ, the power of death was destroyed on the believer’s life Heb. 2:14-15; Rev. 1:18. Therefore, the believer by redemption is ordained to enjoy long life. Remember, every provision of redemption is deliverable on the platform of the covenant. To enjoy long life, we must understand the terms of the covenant and walk by it.
The Covenant Conditions for Long Life.
- Receive and believe the promise of a good old age.
The believer has the responsibility to receive the promise of God before he can experience it Jn. 1:12. Also, what the believer receives has to be believed by him before he can become it in reality Lk. 1:45. In essence, to experience long life, the believer must receive and believe what God has said in His word about it.
- See yourself in good old age.
From scriptures, we understand that our portion in the kingdom is a function of what we see with our eyes of understanding Gen. 13:14-15: Jer. 1:11-14. Therefore, to enjoy long life begin to see yourself in your old age, full of strength, vigor and being a blessing to your world.
- Be committed to serving God and the interest of His kingdom.
Kingdom service guarantees victory over premature and untimely death Exo. 23:25-26. God has few laborers in His work, so He is committed to keep the few He has alive that at old age they are still productive Jn. 15:1-2; Acts 26:22; Phm. 1:9.
- Be committed to the church.
The church is a mysterious place, where certain forces of the Spirit are at work on the lives of believers every time they appear there Heb. 22:12-14. This makes believer who regularly appear in the church to be stronger and live long, especially when they have the understanding Psa. 92:12-14; 84:7.
- Be committed to saying only what God says.
God has placed the power of life and death in the mouth of man Pro. 18:21. Every believer that loves to enjoy a good old age must learn to speak in this wise always, then no death can take his life before his time Psa. 34:12-14; Mat. 14:34-36.
- Build a robust spirit.
The scriptures make us to understand that the spirit is what sustains the body Pro. 18:14. In essence, as long as ones spirit is full of life and strong, no death can touch the believer’s body. We build a robust spirit essentially by intimacy with the Holy Spirit, which comes by living on God’s word, a life of prayer and fasting, worship, and obedience to divine guidance Eph. 3:16.
- Proper care of the body.
The body is the earthly house for the spirit and soul of man, when it breaks down beyond repairs, the spirit and soul his to return to God Heb. 10:5. Therefore, to live long on the earth, the believer must take proper care of his body and make it fit always. This is by proper diet, proper physical exercise, appropriate rest, and adequate mental exercise.
In conclusion, you shall fulfil your days on the earth, and it shall be in strength, health and prosperity. The yoke of untimely death is destroyed right now!
