Memory verse:
“Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken. 16 Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness. 17 But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD’S flock is carried away captive.” – Jer. 13:15-17.
Scripture makes us understand that the proud have no place in the kingdom (Pro. 16:18). Pride makes an individual an enemy of God, and resists the proud by Himself (Jms. 4:6). This is why the proud have no future in life because it ultimately destroys (Pro. 16:16-18). A clear indicator of pride is not being thankful or ingratitude (Jer. 13:15-17). An unthankful person is not being ungrateful, but walking in the path of destruction. Every person who desires good life must guard his life never to be a victim.
Scriptural Understanding and Example That Help for Victory Over Pride.
- The Example of Dathan, Koram, and Abiram.
They were trapped by pride, as they refused to acknowledge the good hand of God and great work Moses was doing; rather they attempted to oppose him. (Num. 16:1-4,8-12,28). The result was that their lineage was destroyed (Num. 16:28-35).
- Cost of Pride.
Pride always makes God turn His back on an individual (Pro. 6:16-19). The effect is that everything will turn against the individual, as nothing works again.
- Be Watchful, Not to Be a Victim.
The simple way to know pride is creeping in is not giving God the glory (Deu. 8:13-17). This is a red flag that must be avoided at all costs.
