Memory verse:

“Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken. 16 Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness. 17 But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD’S flock is carried away captive.”        – Jer. 13:15-17.

The effect of not giving thanks to God does not only end at denying believers the blessedness of thanksgiving; it goes far beyond. Scripture states clearly that the choice not to be thankful is an indication of pride (Jer. 13:15-17). This means that pride is what will make a person not see reason to give thanks, which makes pride the archenemy of a life of thanksgiving. We need a good understanding of the danger of pride, in order not to become a victim of its subtlety (2Cor. 11:3).

Scriptural Understanding and Example That Help for Victory Over Pride.

  1. Pride is Essentially Domiciled in the Heart.

We saw this in the case of Lucifer; pride may never show on the face or in action, it is locked up in the heart (Ezk. 28:8-19).

  1. Only God and the individual have Access to the Heart.

Each person has the responsibility to guard, and seek God’s help to keep his heart from pride (Jer. 17:10; 2Cor. 13:5).

  1. Example of Victim of Pride.

Satan is a typical example, and it cast him from heaven to hell with his angels (Mat. 25:41).

  1. Cost of Pride.

The end of pride is always destruction; every victim ends up being destroyed (Pro. 16:18).
