UNDERSTANDING THE PURPOSE OF THE COMING OF CHRIST.

We serve the God of purpose; everything He does is for specified purpose Eccl. 3:1. When man lacks the understanding of God’s purpose for a thing, it results in the experience of failure, frustration and ultimate destruction if not remedied Pro. 29:18. The coming of Christ to the earth was by God, there must be God’s purpose for it Matt. 1:18-21.

Misconception on the Purpose of the Coming of Christ.

Jesus did not come to the earth to get anything from man; He came to give man all things that make for life in abundance with godliness 2Pet. 1:3; Jn. 10:10. In essence, when Christ comes into an individual’s life, it is to give and not to take anything from the individual 2Cor. 8:9; 1Cor. 4:7.

What are the things Christ came to Give Man.

  1. Christ came to give us eternal life and deliver us from eternal destruction Rms. 3:23; 6:23.

Through the act of disobedience of Adam, sin gained power over man, man lost the life of God he received at creation, and became doomed to destruction Gen. 3:17-19. It is through Christ that the power of sin is destroyed, and man is delivered from the consequences, which principally are death and eternal destruction.

  • Christ came to give us great joy and peace that passes all understanding Jn. 14:27; Lk. 2:10-14; Isa. 9:6.

We live in a world that is characterized by woes and weeping Rev. 12:12. Every man that comes into the world steps into the atmosphere of woes and weeping. The only thing that exempts an individual is the introduction of Christ into that life.

  • Christ came to heal us of all manner of sicknesses and diseases Matt. 8:17; 1Pet. 2:24.

Sickness and disease are Satan’s way of robbing the believer of the abundant life God designed for him in life Jn. 10:10. But through Christ, we are secured against all sicknesses and diseases to enjoy health, vitality, strength and wholeness.

  • Christ came to reposition us above principalities and powers that torment mankind Eph. 2:6; 1:20-21.

After the fall of Adam, man came under the authority and rule of Satan and his forces Rms. 8:19-21. Through Christ, the believer is raised from the earthly into the heavenly places; this is above Satan and all his forces. Therefore, man is no longer under Satan’s rule because of Christ.

  • Christ came to offer to every believer a 7-fold redemptive package Rev. 5:12; Jn. 10:10.

The 7-fold packages include; power, riches, wisdom, strength, glory, honor, blessing. With them the believer is ordained to manifest as more than a conqueror on the earth.

How to Access these Blessings.

It is not enough to know the blessings Christ came to give; we need to understand the way to experience them in reality. The lack of this understanding is at the root of the frustration experience of lots of people in church.

  1. One must be born again and remain so Jn. 3:3-5; 15:4.

Being born again is not by birth into a Christian home, or belonging to a living church etc. It is an experience that is personal, where sin loses its influence and Christ is given the absolute control over one’s life. The evidence of this is the emergence of a new person.

  1. One must be spiritually minded Rms. 8:6.

All the blessings that Christ came to offer man are spiritually communicated Eph. 1:3. It will take a spiritually minded believer to gain access, and experience them in reality 1Cor. 2:14.

  1. One must be steadfast in his walk with God Lk. 9:62; 1Cor. 15:58.

A walk with God is key to experience the blessings that Christ offers Jms. 4:8. A walk with God demands doing things the way it pleases God Amos 3:3.

  1. One must walk in obedience of faith Deut. 28:1-2; Jms. 2:18.

Faith is the believer’s non-negotiable connection to God, and access to all of the blessings in Christ Mk. 9:22-23. Faith is simply obeying God to proof that you believe Him, thereby committing Him to your desired change of story Jn. 2:5.

In conclusion, Christ is not looking for whom to use, but who to bless Jn. 10:10; Acts 3:26. In essence, giving one’s life to Christ will only add to a man’s life, it does not take away from man. And the closer one draws to Christ, the more one gain access to the blessings He offers. Life is all about decision; make the decision for Christ and stick close to Him from now.

To anyone reading this that will love to give his/her life to Christ, pray this prayer out loud with me from your heart: “Lord Jesus, I surrender my life to you today. Forgive me my sins, wash me with your blood. I believe you died for me, on the third day you rose again that I may be justified. Right now, I believe that my sins are forgiven; I’m justified by your blood; I’m born-again; I’m saved; I’m a child of God; I’m free from the power of sin to serve the living God. Thank you Jesus for receiving me; thank you Jesus for restoring me; thank you Jesus for saving me.”

Prayer.

  1. Father in the name of Jesus, I make the choice for Christ over my life today, and to walk with Him closely the rest of my life Deut. 30:19.
  2. Father in the name of Jesus, empower my by your Spirit for a close walk with Jesus from today Acts 1:8.
