“For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.” 

“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”

Every member of God’s kingdom is ordained to be a giant Matt. 5:13-14; Lk. 1:31-32; Jn. 17:18. But this is not automatic; there is always the scriptural demand to every kingdom provision. A fundamental demand of scripture for emergence as a giant in the kingdom is spirituality Rms. 8:6; 1Tim. 4:7-8.

What is Spirituality?

1. Spirituality is the lifestyle of being controlled by the Spirit of God Rms. 8:1; Gal. 5:25; Rev. 1:10.

It is having the Spirit of God in total control of one’s life.

• Spirituality is a life that is absolutely controlled by the word of God Matt. 4:4; Col. 3:16-17.

God’s word is Spirit, the Holy Spirit in written form Jn. 6:63.

• Spirituality is living absolutely by the law of the Spirit, in contrast to the law of the flesh and sin Rms. 8:2.

For instance, the law of the Spirit says there is only one tribe in the church, which is the tribe of Judah Rev. 4:5; Rms. 8:17. Whereas the law of the flesh recognizes different natural tribes in the church; Efik, Qua, Ibo, Yoruba etc, the law of the Spirit refutes this 1Cor. 3:4.

4. The opposite of spirituality is carnality 1Cor. 3:1-3.

Carnality is simply to walk as men; for instance, when a believer says “as a man what can I do” is a clear indication of carnality.

The Significance of Spirituality.

1. It is vital to a walk with God Amos 3:3; Jn. 4:24.
2. It establishes the believer’s dominion over sin Gal. 5:16.
3. It is the believer’s access to God’s voice that guides Rev. 1:10.
4. It secures the believer access into realms of revelation, which is the supernatural lifting force in the kingdom 1Cor. 2:10-14; Gal. 2:2.
5. It empowers the believer to take delivery of all of his inheritance and blessing in Christ Eph. 1:3.

Examples of Spirituality-made men in Scriptures.

1. Joseph Gen. 39:1-6,7-12; 42:18.

He prospered in life on the platform of his spirituality, and not by reason of his family background.

• Daniel Dan. 1:8; 6:1-5.

The exploits of his life has the root in his spirituality, and not his smartness.

• Paul 1Cor. 11:1.

His greatness has its root in his spirituality.

Covenant Ways to Build Spirituality.

1. Make the decision for spirituality Deut. 30:19; Dan. 1:8.

This is the starting point, where the power to do the other things is released. Decision is of the heart, and spirituality also has its root in the heart. It becomes easy therefore when the heart is made for spirituality to accomplish it.

• Commit to the study, meditation and practice of God’s word Jn. 6:63,66-68; Col. 3:16.

The more we do this, the more the Spirit of God in the word fills our lives.

• Commit to prayer as a lifestyle Jude. 20; Lk. 3:20.

The place of prayer is the place of fellowship with God, the Father of spirits. We are imparted with the same Spirit as we engage in prayer Heb. 12:9.

• Make the decision to hate sin and all appearance of evil Psa. 45:7; Dan. 1:8.

Until we have hatred for sin, striving for spirituality may never be fruitful.

• Keep company with believers that pursue after spirituality Pro. 13:20; Psa. 1:1.

Your company will determine what becomes of you.

• Live absolutely by rules that are scriptural-based Matt. 4:4.

When you see a believer that does not consciously put rules in place over his life, he is a believer that won’t have a clean spiritual walk.

• Don’t try to please men, but God Jn. 2:24-25; 8:29.

You can’t be after pleasing men, and be spiritual.

• Be disciplines with your time Eph. 5:15-17.

To be spiritual, you must have total control of your time; minutes, hours, days etc. Every moment must be purposefully engaged towards your spirituality and productivity in life.

Enemy of Spirituality.

1. The flesh Rms. 7:14-18; Jms. 1:13-14.

We must fight our flesh if we truly love to walk in the spirit.

In conclusion, walking in the spirit is possible! It is the secret to the world of exploits, which redemption promised the believer. I decree the grace for spirituality is released on you now!

Prayer.

1. Father in the name of Jesus, I make the choice for the life of spirituality now Deut. 30:19.
2. Father in the name of Jesus, empower me by your Spirit to pursue spirituality and sustain it to the very end 2Tim. 4:7.
