Memory verse:
“Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;”
“But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.”
“Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:” Gal. 4:1-3.
The same way it is in the natural, an individual has to grow and mature for his rights to be given to him. The same applies in the kingdom, the believer has to grow for his kingdom rights to become the reality in his life Gal. 4:1-3. Also, just like it is in nature, spiritual growth is a personal and non-transferable responsibility 1Pet.2:2. Growth has two principal demands; proper feeding and exercise.
The Responsibilities for Spiritual Growth.
- Feeding on the milk of God’s word.
Every baby requires the milk from the mother in order to grow; the spiritual milk of God’s word is a basic need for the growth of new converts 1Pet. 2:2. The believer’s responsibility is to invest to studying the word consistently to assimilate the spiritual milk of the word.
- The experience of new birth.
The believer must access the nutrients in God’s word in order to experience spiritual growth Jn. 6:63: 2Cor. 3:6. Access to the spiritual nutrients in God’s word demands new birth Mk. 4:11; Jn. 10:27-28. In essence, the spiritual experience of being born again must be genuine for one to experience spiritual growth.
As the believer grows spiritually by feeding on God’s word, he increases in divine strength, which in turn puts him in command of the supernatural Dan. 11:32; Jn. 4:32-34. Every believer must be intentional with his spiritual growth, rather than counting spiritual age..
