Memory verse:
“Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.”
- Php. 4:4.
The believer is commanded in scriptures to be joyful at all times, this must have great significance on the life of the believer 1Ths. 5:16. Remember, no commandment of scriptures is designed to be a burden but of benefit to the believer 1Jn. 5:3; 2Tim. 3:16-17. Among other things, joy and rejoicing is a vital secret for health and vitality Pro. 17:22; 18:14. Joy is the spiritual tonic that nourishes the believer’s body thereby empowering him against sickness and disease. But joy is a fruit of the Spirit, which demands to be cultivated before one can have it Gal. 5:22-23.
Scriptural understanding that helps in cultivating joy.
- Joy and rejoicing is a praise trigger.
True excitement will normally result in celebration of whatever one is excited with. In essence, when one is excited in God, it becomes natural to praise Him Jms. 5:13. And praise is the believer’s access code to God’s presence, which is what makes the difference in life Psa. 22:3; Rms. 8:32.
- Joy and rejoicing secures a fruitful life.
Fruitfulness is an innate desire in every man, and God’s will for man on the earth Gen. 1:28. The scriptures make us to understand that joy is a vital demand for fruitfulness Joel 1:11-12; Psa. 67:3-7. In essence, when the believer is joyful, no devil can stop him from bringing forth his desired fruits in life.
- Beware of comparison.
Comparing ourselves with others often results in discouragement and depression. This is why scriptures say that it is not wise, and instruct us against it 2Cor. 10:12. Comparison is common with man, but is a major killer of joy, which is behind the failure and frustrated life of many. Run from it!
The truth is that anyone can be full of joy all his days. All that is required is understanding and the decision for it Psa. 119:144; Deu. 30:19. I charge you by reason of the understanding you have gained now, to decide for joyfulness and rejoicing as your way of life henceforth.
