Memory verse:
“Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.” 14 For thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and favour the dust thereof. 15 So the heathen shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth thy glory.”
– Psa. 102:13-15.
Redemption brings believers into new life that is out of the world, referred to as abundant or eternal life Jn. 3:16 10:10. Prayer is a vital activity for believers to experience the new life in reality; and prayer simply means communing with God Isa. 1:18-19. It is not prayer that is done once a while or when there is a need, but prayer that has become a lifestyle. There are two ways to engage in prayer; one is to pray for oneself, God has committed Himself to deliver our request Mat. 7:7-8; Php 4:6. The other is praying for others; this involves turning prayer to a giving channel, which makes prayer to deliver the best Acts 20:35.
Understanding the Spiritual Exercise of Praying for Others.
- Praying for Any other Apart from Self is Intercession.
Intercession is an open-ended covenant responsibility of believers, with great rewards Eph. 6:18; 1Ths. 5:17. Another word used in scripture is standing in the gap in prayers Ezk. 22:30. Intercession is an exercise that is dare to God, He seeks for intercessors Isa. 59:16; Ezk. 22:30; 1Tim. 2:1.
- What Should We Pray?
We pray for situation of members to turn into testimonies, making them to be established in the faith Php. 1:19; Gal. 6:2. As their situations turn to testimonies, many more will come to Christ and settle in church Zch. 8:23; Acts 5:12-14.
