Memory verse:
“Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken. 16 Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness. 17 But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD’S flock is carried away captive.” – Jer. 13:15-17.
Pride is one silent destroyer of great destinies in the kingdom and life (Pro. 16:18). It is cancer that eats up the victim often before it is discovered. Medical science teaches that the best way to treat cancer is prevention, and early detection. Outside of these two, one is at risk of being destroyed silently without knowing. The way to prevent pride is to understand it has a major way of expression – ingratitude, lack of appreciation for anything, and a tendency to despise things (Jer. 13:15-17).
Scriptural Understanding and Example That Help for Victory Over Pride.
- The Example of Parable of the Two Men in Prayer.
Jesus spoke of this parable about a Pharisee and a publican who went to the temple to pray (Lk. 18:9-14). The Pharisee was a victim of pride; he recounted how he has done everything perfectly, without any reference to God’s goodness. He went home condemned.
- Cost of Pride.
Pride stirs God against an individual, resulting in blocking access to answers in prayer (Lk. 18:10-11).
- Refusing to Give God the Glory.
In simple words, pride is not giving God the glory that is due to Him (1Cor. 1:26-29). For every good thing that happens, it is God and the glory is to be given to Him (Jms. 1:17).
Jesus is Lord!
