Memory verse:
“And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The burden of the LORD, I will even punish that man and his house.”
“Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbour, and every one to his brother, What hath the LORD answered? and, What hath the LORD spoken?”
“And the burden of the LORD shall ye mention no more: for every man’s word shall be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.” – Jer. 23:34-36.
Serving God is the most profitable venture on the earth, but it demands willful obedience to deliver blessings Isa. 1:19; 2Cor. 8:12. God never forces anything on any one; He loves only what is done or given out a cheerful heart 2Cor. 9:6-7. We must therefore beware of serving God as a burden, it incurs His wrath Jer. 23:34-36. This means we must not allow any instruction that God gives become a burden.
Covenant Understanding that Delivers from Serving as a Burden.
- See Every Kingdom Service as a Privilege.
Our attitude to service determines the delivery of blessings Heb. 12:28. Though soul winning pays the most, but we must never engage in it as a burden, else it will be void of rewards Jer. 23:34.
- Serving God can be at a Loss.
If one does not serve God with joy and gladness, service ends as a loss Deu. 28:47-48; 2Cor. 9:6. Labor becomes futile when we serve God as a burden Joel 1:12.
- Serving God can Become Risky to our Lives.
Some out of their discouragement go about discouraging others, particularly zealous new converts and new members. This is a risk because it provokes grave repercussions Lk. 11:52; Mat. 18:6-7.
Jesus is Lord!
Prayer.
Father, endow me with the grace to keep serving you willing, excitedly, seeing it as a privilege till my time on earth is over 1Cor. 15:10.
Action.
Repent of serving God as a burden in the past, ask for God’s mercy to erase the effect.
Priestly Blessings.
Your labor in the kingdom shall no longer be a waste!
By God’s mercy, your labor that has been futile shall deliver rewards from now!
